Judges comments: A well deserved winner in this tough and very close category. What particularly impressed us was the passion and enthusiasm of the chef proprietor who relishes the opportunity to work with great tasting, quality ingredients. Up to 90% of the food served in this restaurant is sourced regionally. When we arrived, the kitchen was clean and tidy even though it had just finished serving a large number of covers. We were also impressed that there were no freezers. This is truly fresh produce representing the best Norfolk has to offer. The chef proprietor and his wife came to the Recruiting Sergeant at a remarkably young age and have developed an enterprise which includes three pubs and a sea food business that share the same ethos for fresh local produce. The Team works hard with attention to detail - often including the personal selection of fish, meat etc for that day's menu. Without warning a sample of the fare on offer was rustled up for us to try and it was really delicious, so much so that one of our group booked a table for a large party the following week.
